Will They Get Their Long-Term Contracts?

from Mark Spector of Sportsnet,
When Edmonton Oilers defenceman Ladislav Smid, in a conversation with veteran reporter Jim Matheson about his own contract status, included Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle in his answer, you knew something was up.
“I know the team is talking with Ebs and Hallsie, and that’s good,” Smid told the Edmonton Journal.
It does not shake the hockey world to learn that Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini would like to sign his two young stars to the kind of long-term deal that Gary Bettman is attempting to eliminate in the next Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Eberle is 22. Hall turns 22 in November. Each has a year left in their entry-level deals and then will have four seasons left before UFA starts (under the current CBA). Tambellini is free to offer them an extension at any time now, or he can wait and operate under the terms of a new CBA agreement.
Which route will he choose? We’re betting on the former.
