Will The Swedes Compete

from the Edmonton Journal via the Vancouver Sun,
Detroit general manager Ken Holland said it was never his intention to build a Swedish stronghold in Motor City. Their presence just happened to fit the team's blueprint. "Then I went to Steve Yzerman the third day in training camp and told him we're looking at a veteran forward, a Swede. 'We've got six, what's your feeling on adding one more?' Steve said, 'Is he going to compete?' I told him he would. He said 'They're not Swedes, they're hockey players.'
