Will NHL Improvements Matter

from the AP via Sports Illustrated,
After expanding too much and looking after the product too little, Bettman finally got it right. The NHL has cost certainty and a solid foundation, but perhaps more important, the league has a product that is fast and dramatic enough to translate to the still-small-but-growing TV screen without the excitement cut off at the edges. An increasing number of high-definition telecasts will help. But unless the league's marketing department comes up with new and better ways to connect with viewers who aren't fans already, all those improvements combined won't make enough of a difference to matter.
