from Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post,
Jimmy Vesey is not the first and will not be the last player to do this, but his spurning of the Predators, the team that drafted him in 2012 before he started his four-year career at Harvard University, could work out in the Rangers’ favor.
The 23-year-old offensive forward is set to become a free agent Aug. 15, and the Rangers are believed to be near the front of the line of teams that will come calling. With their assumed overhaul set to take place this summer, the Blueshirts surely can find a spot for a natural goal scorer and a natural leader, especially one who is young and relatively affordable.
“Long term, I do think Jimmy has the work ethic and the physical package to be successful at the next level,” Crimson coach Ted Donato told The Post over the phone Sunday. “He’s very versatile in how he’s able to generate offense. So I think that he will be a guy that will score goals at that level. How quickly he’ll be able to do that? There’s always an adjustment period. But I do think he’s very capable of being a guy that can be an offensive-impact player.”
