Why The Interest In Bertuzzi

The Detroit Red Wings won the Todd Bertuzzi ‘sweepstakes’ this week, but count me among the perplexed.
Bertuzzi has more baggage than the cargo hold on a jumbo jet, yet supposedly savvy general managers, including the very bright Ken Holland in Detroit, all seemed to feel they could resurrect Big Bert and thus bid for him on Tuesday.
Why is there so much fascination over a player who:
- Is four years removed from his best season;
- Is coming off back surgery and has played only seven games this year, all of them in October;
