Who’s In On Nash

from Aaron Portzline of Puck-Rakers,

• Philadelphia is most definitely on Nash’s list of approved destinations. The Flyers have been in on talks with the Blue Jackets regarding Nash for months now. Last week’s trade of James van Riemsdyk to Toronto does not create a roadblock to a deal, we’re told, only a hurdle. The Jackets liked van Riemsdyk and would have gladly taken him in the deal. But the Flyers have plenty of pieces still that could get it done.

• The New York Rangers still appear to make the most sense, based on their organizational configuration. Larry Brooks of the New York Post reports Howson is insistent on getting Chris Kreider, Ryan McDonagh or Derek Stepan—one of those three, if not two of them—in any deal for Nash. We’ve not been able to confirm those names on this end, but it’s been suggested that most of the clubs still interested in Nash have presented a couple/few possible packages.

• Detroit is in the running. Yes, the Red Wings, the should-be Central Division rival of the Blue Jackets. We’re told the Blue Jackets would swallow hard and trade him to Detroit, knowing they’d face him six times per season for the next, what, 22 years? Really, Nash probably has 10 seasons left, but for disheartened, demoralized Blue Jackets fans it would seem that kind or torment. Many have asked what the Red Wings would possibly offer. That’s unclear, and we won’t speculate.

• You just know San Jose is in the weeds. The Sharks have an offer on the table. It could be sweetened.

Nash is older than Ryan and produces just as much. Offer the same thing (or even a little less) to Anaheim for Ryan and go that route. Also costs $2M less/year on the cap for three more years ($5.5 vs. 7.9).

If the Wings can’t land Parise then my preference would definitely be Ryan over Nash or Semin.

I’ll take Ryan over Semin, but not Nash (even at his price, he’s an awesome talent).  But Parise first, please.  Harder worker.  Better character.  More versatile.  Want Parise more more more.

It sure would be nice to unload that bump on a log Franzen and get a player like Ryan or Nash. Of course this being the Wings, trade is a dirty word.

Looks like Sammy and Toots are the big signings. If we are lucky, maybe Homer will sign on for 2 more years then Holland will close the purse and try to convince the fanbase this is the best team to win the cup in years.

Booo.

So you are really happy about Sammy coming back and Tootoo douchin’ up the place? Cool.

Hate is such a strong word and a total wast of energy on someone you will never meet outside of an internet forum. Perhaps you should relax.

Do NOT WANT!
Would much rather see some home grown talent play before trading them for Nash and his crazy contract.

Rick Nash has a lot negative to be said about him, but he produces about what Ryan does only because he’s in a bad situation (even the ghost of Saku Koivu’s a better fit for a center of Ryan’s line than, well, anyone who’s ever suited up for Columbus is with Nash). The two aren’t equal talents by any means, so that Ryan would cost less is only natural.

Maybe Ryan’s hands are on the same level as Nash’s but that’s about it. Ryan doesn’t distribute the puck nearly as well (when Nash can be bothered to pass at least), he’s not close to as strong, and his skating is nightmare to Nash’s day.
