04/21/2014 at 9:15am EDT

It is no secret that 10 p.m. EST starts for games are the bane of the the east coast hockey fans existence - especially if their team is the one scheduled to play that late on the left coast.

Last night may have been a night to stay up to watch the battle of California though as the San Jose Sharks erupted with seven goals, putting 40 shots on goal, against the Kings.

The Kings set the pace for the night when they scored two in the first and left the Sharks off of the score sheet.

Less than two minutes into the game Kings Jake Muzzin put a wrist shot past Sharks Antti Niemi and before the midway point in the period it would be Trevor Lewis to tip-in a shot from Jeff Carter to double the lead before coincidental minors for roughing to Los Angeles' Slave Voynov and San Jose's Brent Burns would turn the tides for the Sharks.

Second period would see Mike Brown score his first of the playoffs to bring the Sharks within one. Jarret Stoll was called for holding on Joe Pavelski it would be a goal from Raffi Torres to tie the game. A minute after the goal from Torres Sharks would head to the penalty kill as Jason Demers would get called for charging; however, the Kings would be unable to capitalize as the Sharks frenzy continued to build.

Justin Braun would put in a snapshot past Jonathan Quick to give the Sharks the lead before the second intermission.

The third period saw the Sharks frenzy reach a fever pitch when in just over four minutes into the third Patrick Marleau and Joe Pavelski both score to increase the Sharks lead over the Kings to 5-2. It would be Logan Couture's goal at 8:08 that would be the breaking point for the Kings. Less than a minute after the Couture goal Kings' Matt Greene would get a double roughing call followed up 30 second later with Jarret Stoll getting called for hi-sticking of Joe Thornton. Thornton would then put a wrist shot past Quick on the ensuing powerplay.

Then this happened:

The San Jose Sharks now lead the series 2-0 and will play Game Three on tomorrow at 10 p.m. on NBCSN.
