from Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet,
So for the sake of his 750 hockey players, please tell me he didn't come all this way without a plan B. Please tell me the players didn't fire Paul Kelly and hire Fehr just so they can still hand over to the owners $1 billion in cash, concede every conceivable contract right, and then watch their chosen leader fade off into the sunset. If this is the case, they certainly could have saved a ton of money and just kept Ted Saskin.
Now I'm no lawyer and I don't play one on TV, but with Fehr's labour history, could his next play be taking negotiations out of the boardroom and into the courtroom?
It’s safe to say no one would be more familiar with unfair labour practice claims than this guy. Few people remember that when the World Series was cancelled in 1994, it was a court order that brought baseball back on the field rather than the players begging for their jobs back. It was the legal system that sided with Fehr and his MLBPA and not the side of billionaire owners.
Another option for Fehr -- a worst-case scenario for any hockey fan -- would be decertifying the NHLPA. But that’s a complex procedure that guarantees the players nothing, and guarantees not only no hockey for this season, but likely next as well.
