What If Nashville Signed Suter And Parise?

from Jeremy K Gover of Section 303,
The prizes of this free agency class are defenseman Ryan Suter and forward Zach Parise. Some think it will take roughly $9 million to sign each player. Using that number, let’s take the best case scenario and say the Preds sign both (again, purely as an example). That’s a whopping $18 million tied up in just those two players. But guess who’s still not even at the salary cap floor.
It’s also assumed that team captain, restricted free agent and back-to-back Norris Trophy finalist Shea Weber will get at least an equal contract to Suter, if not a little more. So, based on the number we used for Suter ($9 million), let’s assume he nets $9.5 million. Poile and company sign their captain and still have $7.8 million left over per year to sign four or five more players. And what are Poile and company best known for this time of year? Shrewd signings.
note: the numbers listed at the site have changed just a bit with the just announced signing of Paul Gaustad

This guy should become a comedian instead of a writer/blogger.

Not sure you can do the Miami Heat thing in the NHL…blowing your wad on three players and relying on adult league rejects to pick up the slack that remains is a pretty amusing thought. I say go for it Preds!!

If they signed both Suter and Parise, it means Weber is on the block and would be moved before Game 1.
Not that this writer has any sense of that.

I don’t think most Preds followers are taking into account that there will be HUGE bonus money included in these respective deals, and how front-loaded these deals will be. As I told @WillyD1025 earlier, I won’t be surprised if Suter’s numbers in his first year of the deal hit 17 mill. Parise maybe more than that…. Most teams can’t afford to fork that out for 2 contracts for those respective players.
Christian Erhoff from Buffalo is a good one to look at, more than likely Suter has checked out how those numbers fall for him.
I don’t see Nashville resigning Suter, Weber, and taking on Parise.. I’m not sure if anyone could. But it is Poile and Cooper, and the Good Witch, Dorothy, Toto, etc etc etc.

Shrewd Signings ? Why does Poile get all this credit for being a top GM when this team hasn’t done anything? Won a first round series 2 years running… won 3 games total in round 2. It’s not a cup contender for crying out loud. Was a better team before all of Poiles panic button trades at last seasons deadline… Yep… shrewd.
