from Jeff Gordon of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,
Parayko’s camp realistically can demand $6 million to $7 million per year on a long-term deal. He could settle for a short-term deal through arbitration, but Armstrong risks paying higher salaries whenever Parayko finally signs for the long haul. Where is Parayko’s ceiling? It is far north of Shayne Gostisbehere, a power-play specialist who signed a six-year, $27 million contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.
It is closer to the vicinity of Shea Weber, who is in the middle of a crazy 14-year, $110 million contract signed under an earlier NHL collective bargaining agreement. The marketplace is more rational in the current CBA but, like we said, Parayko is going to get paid.
All of this activity provides great motivation for the young Blues defenseman. Walman is the most interesting of the bunch, possessing some of the qualities that made Shattenkirk so valuable.
