Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Glen Wesley and his wife, Barb, announced today that they will spend part of their day with the Stanley Cup visiting Marines at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina on Thursday. The Wesley family will take the fabled trophy to the "Wounded Warriors" barracks to share it with Marines wounded in combat. They are scheduled to arrive at Camp Lejeune with the Cup around 1 p.m.
The Injured Support Unit barracks at Camp Lejeune were dedicated on Nov. 15, 2005 to answer the growing need for accessible housing for Marines wounded in combat. Existing barracks were renovated to create the special housing. Fourteen first-floor rooms were made accessible with ramps and grab bars, two rooms made wheelchair accessible and ramp access was added to the building.
