Matt Marini, the CEO of PUCK HCKY and a life-long hockey fan, has always wanted to bring about a hockey brand that not only made apparel more suited to his tastes (imagine a wardrobe made up solely of black concert/band tees), but one that took hockey to new places where there were undoubtedly hidden fan bases hungry for a brand that was willing to go beyond the typical corporate licensed products and beer-league tees (not to say that there’s anything wrong with any of that—it’s just not what PUCK HCKY was meant to be).

The initial apparel line is mainly tees, hoodies, hats, fun accessories, stickers, etc. but Matt has visions to channel in very fashion forward pieces/lines that feature custom-made designs and high-end apparel.

How the Tomas Tatar Signature Series came about:

Matt had a short list of players that he wanted to work with after establishing the PUCK HCKY brand and Tomas Tatar was a player at the top of that list. On a rainy day last April (yeah, about this time last year), Matt found himself parked next to Tatar at the bank. Brushing aside the fear that he'd look like a weirdo stalker, he finished up his banking and waited outside by the cars for Tomas. In the rain, like a weirdo stalker. But wouldn't you know it, Tomas was receptive to the idea of making a fun hockey clothing line that let people get to know him better. The Wings were headed out of town for a game, but Tomas said he would call in a few days when he returned. That weekend, Matt knew what it was to be a young lady sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring, but fearing that it probably was too good to be true. After all, the brand was (and still is, to an extent) in its infancy- with little to demonstrate his grand vision for it.

Needless to say, he called! As Matt drilled down into his ideas for what a hockey brand could be with Tomas, he began to realize that his vision was actually fulfilling an unmet need. Focused branding and player promotion are often overlooked for the younger, emerging NHL stars who are eager develop their own brand and add value above and beyond their existing identity as a member of an NHL team.

Launched just a few months ago, the Signature Series offers fans an exclusive and more personal connection to Tomas Tatar. Designs incorporate Tomas' personality, interests, and background, from a very personal, hand-drawn design crafted from his actual tattoo, to stuff that’s just fun, like a fan favorite featuring a likeness of Tatar’s face and signature hair-style.
