Laine continues to dazzle; Radulov, Hall, Chiasson and a whole lot more wrapping up the weekend in Scott Cullen’s Statistically Speaking.
Winnipeg’s rookie goal-scoring phenom, Patrik Laine scored a goal and set up the overtime winner in Saturday’s 3-2 win at St. Louis.
Even after getting shut out in Sunday’s win at Chciago, he has five points (4 G, 1 A) in the past four games and is tied for the league lead with 16 goals in 28 games.
The 6-foot-4 Finn is a brilliant shooter, and while his 21.6% shooting percentage is inflated, it may not be grossly over the mark either, because he has obviously rare shooting talent.
Just to rain on his parade a little bit, while the teen leads the league with seven power-play goals, he has struggled to push play forward at even-strength.
It’s not the end of the world, because he’s just 18, and there is lots of room for him to grow, but his brilliant finishing ability has easily overshadowed the difficulties he has faced from time to time.
