Wayne Gretzky Talks Reaching Age 50 And Of Course Hockey

Nick Kypreos of Rogers Sportsnet did a 3 part, one on one interview with Wayne Gretzky.

Well worth the 26 minutes it takes to watch all three parts (2 & 3 are below).

Thanks for posting this, Paul. Definitely worth watching.

I grew up in the 80s watching Gretzky single-handedly defeat the Flames on many occasions. There was a bitter rivalry between the Flames and Oilers and everyone hated Gretzky (because he was just so damn good).

But I happened to be at the last game the Great One would ever play at the Saddledome in Calgary. The Rangers were in town and I will never forget how, during the third period, the crowd just started to cheer in appreciation of Gretzky. The cheers started small and got louder and louder, until the officials had to take a short break so Gretzky could acknowledge the crowd from the bench.

For a city to acknowledge a long-time rival with that kind of respect is an amazing thing to witness. That’s my favorite Gretzky memory.
