Washington Capitals To Host 2015 Winter Classic

The Washington Capitals announced today at their Capitals Convention that they will host the 2015 Winter Classic.

January St 2015 the Washington Capitals will host the next Winter Classic.   According to Ted Leonsis  an opponent and venue is yet to be determined. Nationals Park and FedEx field are two of the front runners for venues for the game.

"The excitement of the Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic continues to grow, and bringing the 2015 event to the D.C. area will write another chapter in the game's great history of entertainment," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said, "We are looking forward to being in Washington with the Capitals' great fans."

The 2015 Winter Classic will be the seventh Winter Classic since the Buffalo Sabres hosted the Pittsburg Penguins.

In 2011 the Washington Capitals defeated the Pittsburg Penguins at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, in what is the mist-watched NHL regular season game ever in the United States.

Like the 2014 Winter Classic split between Detroit and Ann Arbor, Michigan the 2015 event will also feature a Spectator Plaza - a free outdoor festival offering hockey-themed attractions, music and fun for fans of all ages.

Bring in Ottawa. The capital of the US vs. the capital of Canada.
