Was It The Ducks Or Refs That Lost?

Given 11 power plays, Toronto converted five, including two of three 5-on-3 advantages in a game that spilled out-of-the-margins even for the Ducks, who committed 17 of the game’s 27 penalties.

“We lost the hockey game,” Coach Randy Carlyle said. “Did the referees make as many mistakes as we did or did we make more mistakes than the officiating?  That’s the way I always judge it.

If you go through a hockey game and you can make less mistakes than the officials make in the game, then you usually have pretty good chance of winning.”

That’s not to say Carlyle wasn’t disconcerted with the undisciplined play he saw Monday night.

“It hasn’t been an issue up until tonight,” he said.
