Wanted- One Moody Mule

from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,

To succeed against as big and physical an opponent as the Predators, the Wings need Franzen to play with fire. It’s a rare player who performs at a consistently high level all season (his name: Nicklas Lidstrom), but Franzen is one of those guys who can be frustrating to watch when he doesn’t use his size to bulldoze opponents and drive to the net. He does do that this time of year, though, and that’s encouraging for the Wings’ chances of success.

“Him in particular,” close friend Niklas Kronwall said, “when he gets in the mood, he’s really, really hard to stop. He uses his body so well. At the same time, he’s got great hands, great vision. And it’s tough to play someone with all those elements together.

“He is huge part of our team and when he gets going, and he is in his right state of mind, he’s a game changer.”

At 6-feet-3 and some 220 pounds, Franzen towers over most of his fellow forwards.

“Mule is one of those guys that to me,” coach Mike Babcock said, “when he is on the top of his game, he is as good as anyone in the game.”

Maybe instead of the mule we should call him the groundhog….do you think he is going to see his reflection in this series?

I can take advantage of my size and get to the net easier than smaller guys,” he said.

So why is it then that Happy spends twice as much time around the net on Z’s line than The Horse’s Ass does on Pavel’s line? IMHO, it’s all a matter of will and desire – and Franzen seems to be very selective about when he shows either of those things.

Him in particular,” close friend Niklas Kronwall said, “when he gets in the mood, he’s really, really hard to stop.

Gee, given the fact that he made $5.5M this year, you’d almost think he’d be “in the mood” to play up to his potential almost every night. But if it takes the playoffs to get him in that mood, then so be it. But for the kind of money he’s getting, he’d better be in one mulish, pissed-off mood every single night.

I wish Franzen had Holmstrom’s attitude. According to his teammates he’s grumpy and “in a mood” all the time. Franzen would be a freakin’ beast if that was the case. Anyhoo, if the Preds don’t tick him off by the third period Babcock has to channel his inner Scotty Bowman and make him angry. If that happens the Mule that we all love to be annoyed with will disapear and Playoff Mule will show up. If not we are screwed.

something to try in the locker room: hide his abba cd’s. He should come onto the ice with a fire you’ve never seen. Preds beware!

WE’RE LEAVING TOGETHER
BUT STILL IT’S FAREWELL
AND MAYBE WE’LL COME BACK
TO EARTH, WHO CAN TELL?
I GUESS THERE IS NO ONE TO BLAME,
WE’RE LEAVING GROUND
WILL THINGS EVER BE THE SAME AGAIN???

IT’S THE FINAL COUNT DOWN
THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
