Voices Will Be Missed

from Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,
The voice was uplifting during these troubled times:
“Be safe, keep the faith and keep smilin’ like a butcher’s dog.”
The one, the only, Mike Lange.
This voice also was therapeutic at just the right time:
“I’m really looking forward to watching the games. Pens-Flyers always was one of my favorites ... in a carnivorous sort of way.”
The one, the only, Doc Emrick.
It really did do me a lot of good to call both broadcasting legends this week. I was afraid I was going to have to go cold turkey without either one in this hockey season. The inimitable Lange, the Penguins’ voice since 1974, put his fabulous career on pause because of the COVID-19 pandemic and is awaiting the vaccine. The incomparable Emrick, an eight-time Emmy winner and the best national announcer around, retired after last season following a 40-year run in the NHL.
