Vladimir Tarasenko In Some Pain After Hit By Mark Olver

In the first video, NHL Tonight says Tarasenko was blindsided by the hit.

In the 2nd video below, John Forslund and Brian Engblom with their call and opinion of the hit.

What do you think and there was no penalty on the play.

Great hit.  He didnt skate through the kid (he didnt even skate to him), he didn’t use an elbow, and he didn’t hit him in the back.  Worst case scenario is that its a late hit.

I told a buddy of mine that this day would come for Tarasenko, that for all of his skill and success this year, that his real test would be how he survived his first big hit.  My friend’s reply was “but nobody seems to be able to hit him.”

The freight train catches up with everybody who plays on the tracks, and hockey players play there every night.  I thought this would happen during one of his blueline dangles, but this will test him (and hopefully teach him) just as well.

I agree with the above, great hit. Certainly hope Tarasenko is okay, as it does look like he was maybe caught a bit on the bottom/side of the jaw. But there wasn’t a charge, he didn’t hit his numbers, he didn’t jump, the elbows and forearms stayed down and in… if you are a fan of both big hits and safe hockey (which I think most people are), this is exactly what you want big hits to look like.

I don’t think it warrants any review. That being said, I can’t say I am a fan of that type of hit. Blind side hits suck.

disagree hit the guy when he is facing you but not from behind, it’s cheap.

Here’s how I’m looking at this hit. If Tarasenko doesn’t turn at the last second, what’s this hit look like? I’ll tell you, his head’s attempting to go through the glass face first. At no time does Tarasenko show anything but his back to Olver.
