Videos- Tom Wilson On The Receiving End Of Big Hits

Ryan Reaves hit on Tom Wilson resulted in a major for interference and a game misconduct.

via David Schoen of the Las Vegas Review-Journal,

Reaves delivered a crushing shoulder-to-shoulder hit to Wilson well after the Capitals’ rugged winger released the puck.

“He was just looking at his pass,” Reaves said, “and ran into a lion in the jungle.”

Yeah, it’s hard to feel much sympathy.

Should have been two for interference, it’s obvious that the officials didn’t see it.

“He was just looking at his pass,” Reaves said, “and ran into a lion in the jungle.”

Well, that’s obnoxious.

Reaves is a joke- and sounds like an idiot with his jungle comments.  Tom Wilson may cross the line but he would look great in a winged wheel any day.

In case you were wondering, no further discipline for Reaves.

The guy totally deserves everything he gets.

I get that Reirden is a first year head coach and all and
he’s standing up for his guys.

But I don’t know what sort of sympathy his brand new, situational
concern about predatory hitting and trash talk is supposed to elicit.

I’ve seen so much smirking from Wilson, so much laughing and taunting
of the guys he’s hit and their teammates.

I don’t wish to see Wilson’s brain scrambled by cheaphots or some kind of thuggish vigilante ambush.
But man…if you’re gonna live by the sword…

It’s not so common in today’s NHL but Reaves is a bigger, tougher player, at least as explosive a hitter
and a tougher fighter. It was totally a late hit and of course it was interference. And I don’t think it was funny or cool that Wilson hit his head on the ice. But at least Reaves didn’t pick his head blindside, which is something Wilson has done repeatedly. Yes, Reaves comments are unnecessary and don’t make him look that great.
But I have no idea how Washington can seriously expect that it won’t be like this again and again for Wilson.
He’s shown so little respect for his opponents so many times in such a short period. And the implication is almost: well, if you don’t like it, get in his face and get your ass kicked that way, too.
What goes around comes around. There aren’t a ton of players and teams capable of doing the same to Wilson and the Caps - but there are a few. When the league won’t or isn’t allowed to suspend a guy like Wilson a sufficient number of games, it is especially likely teammates of the players he’s cheapshotted will target him all over the ice.

As much as a dbag that Wilson is, I think the hit was a little dirty.

The fact that the 3 Ring Circus that is the DOPS, isn’t even going through the motions of scheduling a hearing (only to do nothing) is a bit surprising. A hit like that on #87 or #97 would have resulted in a Tribunal being formed and a Warren Committee esque investigation taking place. It would have resulted in a season ending suspension.

That comment doesn’t bother me in the slightest.  I’m sure my opinion will be met with a bit of resistance, but, a man of color taking ownership of a denigrating term (jungle) wins me over.

I wonder how many times we all gloss over similar stupid comments by white players.

Well said. It was definitely interference but it sucks that Wilson hit his head on the ice with no helmet. That looked like a concussion to me.

Again, Wilson is getting what he gives to players all the time.
