Most companies either need to fire their entire marketing department, or have their heads examined. I honestly have no idea how some “creative” minds come up with these garbage commercials, or who agrees with them and say , “Yes, this is funny and effective advertisement.’.

Complete waste of $. Most commercials I see anymore make me not want to use their product/service if it was the last thing on Earth.

Or how about the other Geico commercials which repeatedly use the same theme?
(Did you know that Pinnochio was a bad liar? Did you know that Edzo is a horrible, homer announcer?)

After watching the second video I can’t feel my face and I’m not sure where I am.

I’ve worked in advertising and sat in rooms where some of these decisions are discussed, analyzed and made. It’s about as dumb as you can imagine.

I did not intend to offend anyone in advertising. My apologies. I just see so many commercials that make me think what the h-e- double hockey sticks are they doing?  Plenty of funny and creative commercials out there. Geico just gets to me I guess. My fault. And don’t get me started on that damn progressive lady.

Maybe I just have a problem with insurance companies…

I’m not offended. I agree. Most commercials are terrible and I’ve seen why. I worked in media planning but would sit in meetings often where the creative part was discussed. I will say the biggest contributor to a bad commercial is probably the client.

They want it edgy, but not too edgy but they still want to appeal to the teen crowd without alienating their parents, and it has to be funny but not over the top funny because it might distract from the message, and really, it’s a branding commercial so keep the salesy stuff to a minimum but, of course we still want to sell stuff, ha ha…. ad nauseum. They create a tiny box with their constraints and out comes a commercial with two fat guys doing yoga in hockey sweaters.

Lol good description. It’s like they just make the creative process more complicated than it is.

The only Canadian television I’ve seen is trailer park boys. But from what I’m told, the Canadian and other foreign commercials have much more freedom in terms of censorship. I’m sure other people have seen foreign commercials that are hilarious, but they contain “adult” material so they can’t show it in the states. I’ve watched foreign condom commercials that are absolutely hysterical and they don’t even show/say anything bad, but they’re banned in the US.

They used to have the World’s Funniest Commercials every year on tv, back when there was only a few channels. They’d show all the raunchy foreign commercials. Even as a kid, I could tell our commercials kinda sucked compared to everyone else’s.
