Videos- Evgeny Kuznetsov And T.J. Oshie Left The Game Last Night With Possible Concussions

from Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post,

The Washington Capitals could be significantly shorthanded after a bruising 3-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday night. In addition to being without top goaltender Braden Holtby, who suffered an undisclosed “upper-body” injury Wednesday morning, center Evgeny Kuznetsov and T.J. Oshie both suffered possible concussions during the game....

Kuznetsov was clipped in the head by Brandon Tanev’s elbow in the first period, and though he played on the ensuing power play for an illegal check to the head, he then went back to the locker room for an evaluation and didn’t return. With six goals and 15 assists, Kuznetsov is Washington’s leading scorer. Without him, Lars Eller centered the top line with captain Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson....

The Department of Player Safety is also examining Winnipeg’s Josh Morrissey’s play on Oshie in the last minute of the game, when Washington had goaltender Pheonix Copley on the bench for an extra attacker. After both players skated into the corner, Morrissey slammed Oshie down to the ice, and Oshie’s head hit the surface. He came up woozy, especially concerning because Oshie has four reported concussions in his career, including one last season.

So we have a clear elbow to the head, which is a suspendable offence and we got body slamming which as we also know form an episode a few weeks ago, is also a suspendable offence.
So I wonder if the DOPS has the guts to suspend 2 players on the 1 team at the same time.

Perfect test to see how consistent the league can be. But the GMs are crying now that there are too many suspensions so I bet at least one of these gets overlooked.

BTW, if the league cares about player safety, why didn’t the refs blow the whistle when Oshie was obviouisly dazed and attempting to play on. I know Washington fans would hate to see a whistle while they were controlling the puck in the offensive zone but Oshie could have gotten seriously hurt by trying to play through it.

The owners, GMs, players, coaches, NHLPA and officials need to get their collective heads together and decide what they really want to do about this issue. It’s a lot of mixed messages now with different agendas depending immediate priorities, not long-term health.

How many did the guy get for slamming Petterson? This should be that plus a game or two. As for the Tanev elbow - throw him 10. There is no excusing that hit and 10 should be the absolute minimum.

Tough to watch. He appears to be talking to himself as he gets up and is obviously not right. You’re right fans would probably not be happy, but the Caps would probably prefer their extra attacker to know his name and what state he’s currently in.

That elbow to Kuznetsov was complete BS. Wow. Winnipeg reminds me of the old Flyers.

One of the SN commentators was bemoaning the potential for a suspension on the Kuznetsov hit as if it shouldn’t be a remote consideration. It looked to me as though Tanev was pretty aware of what he was doing.

because it’s just not remotely similar in scope?

The Hammer, Moose, Battleship et al wouldn’t make any pretense of hockey plays half the time. They were out their to kick @ss and intimidate.
