from Aaron Portzline of Puck-Rakers,
Blue Jackets right wing Cam Atkinson has a nasty slice running across his right eyelid and down his cheek, yet he was counting his blessings after a 4-1 loss to Anaheim on Friday in Honda Center.
At 10:34 of the third peirod, Atkinson was inadvertantly kicked in the face by the right skate blade of Ducks center Ryan Kesler, when Kesler's leg kicked up behind him as he reached ahead of him for the puck.
Atkinson dropped to the ice, and a small pool of flood formed before Blue Jackets' trainer Mike Vogt could reach with with a towel. He walked quickly to the dressing room under his own power and was immediately seen by Ducks medical personel.
About 30 minutes after the game, Atkinson emerged from the trainer's room with two loose bandages and a bag of ice over his right eye.
"I can see," Atkinson said. "Thank God I can see.
"It went right across my eyelid. If it goes through my eyelid ... "
