Video- Toronto/Philadelphia No Goal, Net Of The Mooring

How to stop this?  Perhaps a delay of game penalty?

At 19:03 of the first period in the Flyers/Maple Leafs game, the Situation Room initiated a video review to further examine a good goal call on the ice. Video review determined the net was off its moorings prior to Auston Matthews’ shot. According to Rule 78.5 (x), “When the net becomes displaced accidentally. The goal frame is considered to be displaced if either or both goal pegs are no longer in their respective holes in the ice, or the net has come completely off one or both pegs, prior to or as the puck enters the goal.” No goal Toronto.

It’s amazing to me everytime Toronto has to correct the refs. Is that inept refs, stupid rules, or both?

With regards to this, dont I remember a time when, if the net was off a bit, it doesnt stop play or whatever? The net was good on the right side.

One 2 minute penalty wont stop this.

Awarding goals will stop this.

Penalty for what? A poorly moored goalpost?

And who sits in the box, the person on the ice crew who is supposed to properly put the net on the pegs?

It ridiculous that the net is coming off so easily—it’s at least the second time this week, just for the Leafs.  Either the moorings need to be fixed so that a post jam play isn’t dislodging it, or the rule needs to be changed so that it remains a goal if the dislodging had no effect on the result.

Personally, I’d like to see it called a goal in this scenario since it was goalie contact that cause it to come off the moorings.

Ideally this wouldn’t happen so easily though.
