The Hot Doggin’ It Roy Statue of Liberty Goal.  Greatest goal given up ever.

Those clips make me miss the Red Wings.

Glad the Steve Smith goal was the #1. That play was immortalized by the Canadian punk/metal band Propagandhi, who sang

” I don’t want to be the Steve Smith of the revolution. See the analogy, we’re the Oilers, the World Bank the Flames. 2 minutes remain in the 7th game of the best of 7 series! Yeah, Jesus saves! Gretzky scores! The workers slave. The rich get more. One wrong move and we risk the cup. So play The Man, not the puck. “

I think the Patrick Roy should have been #1 just because he was trying to show off. Every other one was just a bad pass or unlucky bounce. Boyle’s especially.

I was seated right behind the net for #2. It was so unexpected, particularly for a Game 7 of the Stanely Cup. We were waiting for the Senators to take the puck down the ice when all of a sudden the red light was flashing and the buzzer sounded. It took a second to figure out what had happened. It really was the final nail in the coffin for the Senators. I felt a little bad for Emery (but obviously not that bad).

Anybody remember the fluke Sergei Fedorov goal against Jimmy Waite in the ‘98 playoffs? Puck got dumped in, hit a weird nick in the boards, glanced off the back of Waite’s skate (he had stayed in the crease) and went in.

It’s not really a gaffe, per se, but I always think of that one whenever there’s a rundown of weird, fluke goals. I’ve never seen a video of it anywhere online, though.
