Video- The Old Broken Blade Shootout Goal

12/28/2014 at 8:24am EST

from Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic,

Captain Shane Doan had converted nearly 31 percent of his shootout attempts over the span of his career, but he hadn't been able to earn a spot in the Coyotes rotation this season until Saturday.

And apparently the wait meant plenty of time to tap into his creativity.

Doan made a memorable debut as he used a stick-shattering shot to finally solve the Ducks' Frederik Andersen in the fourth round of the shootout, which dealt the Coyotes a 2-1 win in front of 13,656 at Gila River Arena in their return from the three-day Christmas break.

"He didn't show me that move in practice," coach Dave Tippett said. "He shows me that move in practice, maybe I'd use him a little more."
