Video- Targeting Leon Draisaitl?

Yeah of course in a sense this has been going on
as long as meaningful hockey games and injuries have
coincided.

But to make it so obvious and almost reduce a shift to:
everyone stop playing hockey and take a shot at Draisaitl’s ankle - maybe he won’t be able to score again if he can’t skate at all!

Whether it was coaching or team leadership, which I doubt would intentionally defy Sutter, someone officially communicated that this is how the Flames should
play Draisaitl.

It’s just embarrassing.

There really is a difference in how some teams play and try to win.

Should the Oilers be targeting the Flames most skilled players’
hands and feet so they can’t get to or handle or shoot pucks?

I’m sure if they did then the Oilers would be immediately severely penalized - based
on this video of the Flames. But glad the league is now on of it after ignoring an entire shift of it when it mattered.

Meanwhile, remember how the Flames ended the last game they lost.
Like they don’t know the only goalie the Oilers trust is forty and injury prone.
And Sutter tries to gaslight the media and the officials for game four that they overreacted to Lucic running into and pressing his weight into Smith in a pile up.

Does this shock anyone? Flames always play this way and get worse when they are losing.

I remember, back in the daayyyy, when playoff controversy revolved around Todd Bertuzzi putting away the ping pong table so the visitors couldn’t play.  https://nhl.nbcsports.com/2012/04/17/todd-bertuzzi-doesnt-want-the-predators-playing-ping-pong-on-his-watch/

I know some people like D. Sutter but something about him has always rubbed me the wrong way.  I guess it’s comments he makes like about how Lucic could have done more damage.  Well, yeah….I guess you could say that right up until he kills the guy, no?

I’m not saying what they’re doing is right but this is why you need a lucid.  Crying to the league after the fact isn’t going to get you the same payoff as turtling a guy in game.  What they get a fine.. more penalties called? And you go to the next round even more banged up?  Should’ve been handled in game last game imo.

This is what’s so cartoonish about the Flames.

If it’s not Lucic, it’s Brett Ritchie.
Or Gudbranson. All three are heavyweight fighters.

Or it’s Zadorov, who might be a lousy fighter but is enormous and
willing to cross the line (see elbow to the head of Glendening.

Or it’s someone like Blake Coleman who takes runs at opponents all the time.
Or Rasmus Andersson who becomes a tough guy as long as it’s against a smaller fellow Swede like John Klingberg.

Or it’s the more egregious of the ridiculous Tkachuk spawn who
had some vague but still pointed thoughts about how the Flames need to find a way to slow down McDavid. So watch for more line-crossing goonery and attempts to injure directed at the Oilers other superstar.

Boston used to do this, too. Dress like 4-5 enforcers some of whom could sorta play, and give every other player the green light to cheap shot and bully the opponent all game long. The officials won’t do anything and the league office sure won’t.

Sutter sure seemed to be suggesting: hey if you’re gonna give our guy a major we could sure get even more out of our goonery next time - so don’t tempt us.
It’s your fault. We could easily do worse.

Nurse is apparently injured and the Oilers still need him on the ice.
Kane has been too valuable on McDavid’s line.
So Kassian could take a run at someone who go after a finesse player.
But guaranteed some disposable goon on Calgary would just take McDavid or Draisaitl or Smith out of the series. And who cares if someone like Brett Ritchie misses a couple playoff games. You can’t win a war of attrition against a team like that. And all the league is good for is looking at video after the fact and warning both teams not to do what only one team already did.

Players shouldn’t have to police the game

Players have always policed the game of hockey, the fact that they’ve taken some of that ability away is part of the problem IMO.

I agree. Bettman made everyone wear a face shield so no one wants to tear up their knuckles punching helmets and face shields. If your team can’t score on the PP then expect to be brutalized.

Hard agree, “fighting” in the time of mandatory visors is a joke
