After months away from the team as he worked on recovering from alcohol addiction, Bobby Ryan made his return to Ottawa one to remember by scoring a hat trick and leading the Sens to victory. Ryan discusses his emotional night and says his wife is the first star of the game for helping him through tough times.

I hadn’t realized he was returning to the lineup just yet.
Apparently he had a really rough family situation as a kid and some
alcohol issues in the family. Goes to show you never know exactly what is going on in someone’s life.
What a great return. What an embrace by fans at home.

Sportsnet (I think?) did a story on it a couple years ago. It’s an insane story, and sad.
It’s good that Ryan has gotten and is getting the help that he needs.

Good for him.
You have to wonder what opportunity he lost in the end in ANA and now in OTT. He was a sure-fire 30 goal scorer there for a while, and he maybe could have stayed most of that course or something.
It’s never too late to get yourself right though. There’s a lot that’s been at stake w/ him beyond just hockey.
