Mike Rupp will have a phone hearing today with the NHL for this hit on T.J. Oshie.

Oshie is listed as day-to-day byt the Blues.

I don’t get it. How does Rupp get a match penalty for that? It was a clean hit. Oshie can’t skate through other players, no wonder he gets separated from the puck

Problem is…the head was the principal point of contact…whether that was Rupp’s intent or not is irrelevant. Other players have been suspended for the same type of hit and he should be too.

It is no different than getting a high-sticking call when it was clearly accidental. You are responsible for where you make contact and Rupp could see he was lined up to hit Oshie in or near the head. With Oshie having his head down and being bent over a bit in his skating stride, a head hit was inevitable and players need to ensure they ease off in such situations.
