Video- Mike Babcock On Video Review And The Size Of The Goalies

via Sportsnet,

Leafs head coach Mike Babcock gives his take on video review so far, and sounds off on the size of goalies compared to net size, saying he just hopes they’re not taking goals away.

I am genuinely shocked that Mike Babcock, of all people, is for growing the size of the net.
And he’s absolutely right.
If you look at it in a mathematical sense, there is probably 50% less space to score a goal today as compared to 1955>2000.

I’ve had enough of the NHL trying to adjust rules, add rules, tinker, tinker, tinker, when the only real solution - and the smartest one - is to simply increase the size of the net.

Get some egghed from MIT to calculate the scoring space available in every decade and then compare it to this era.
Then adjust the net accordingly.

I’ve made this argument in the past, but if the NHL rolled out a 3x2 net during a game in 1975, the fans would have gone absolutely ballistic.
But today? People want to slit your dog’s throat for even suggesting making the nets equal to what shooters had to work with for decades before goalies started looking like Wilt Chamberlain with sofa cushions stuffed under his shirt.
