Video- Mika Zibanejad Out With A Broken Leg

from Larry Brooks of the New York Post,

So now we will get a much better read of just how much “vaunt” is in the Rangers’ vaunted depth up front.

For though the Blueshirts have coped extremely well with injuries such as those that have sidelined Chris Kreider and Pavel Buchnevich through portions of the season’s first quarter, the test will become severe in the aftermath of Mika Zibanejad having suffered a broken left fibula in the first minute of overtime in Sunday’s 3-2 shootout defeat to the Panthers at the Garden.

The top-six center, injured when he crashed into the wall with his leg extended after having become entangled with Florida’s Reilly Smith 41 seconds in, will be out from six-to-eight weeks, per coach Alain Vigneault. His absence will create a significant void in the middle that, for at least Monday’s game in Pittsburgh, the Blueshirts will attempt to fill from within.

“We’re no different from any other team that has injuries,” said Vigneault. “Every coach will say in these moments that it is an opportunity for someone else to get more ice time.”
