This Latta fight was in retaliation for Deslauriers hard hit on Williams. After Deslauriers landed several good punches and then had a takedown, he windmilled his arms up and screamed, getting the First Niagara Center crowd into it.
Capitals Coach Barry Trotz would later call that moment a momentum boost for his team, as players respected Latta for sticking up for Williams. But with any fight, there’s a risk of injury, and in this case, Latta suffered an arm injury, the seriousness of which Trotz said he isn’t sure of yet.
“He’ll get evaluated tomorrow, and we’ll see where that is,” Trotz said.
