It’s not like a number among the mere commenters didn’t call it.

When you give one guy a (yes, mandated, black and white) 10 game ban, after he’s
provoked with stick work, for turning around reentering the ice and starting to engage - but nothing else.
And then give the opponent who follows him as he’s being escorted off the ice and decides it’s fair to
hit him with his stick when he’s fully off the ice, his back’s turned, and he’s leaving
ONE EFFING GAME…guess what happens.

I don’t know if it’s that he thinks he’s got a big NHL hockey name - because he dad was a d-bag, too?

Or, if he’s got a swollen ego because he was a high draft pick and is in fact a good player at a young age?

Or, is he’s just a brat who thinks he can get away with anything.

But the league is heavily, heavily penalizing Tkachuk’s opponents and almost totally letting him off with no consequences. This is the second time he’s hit an opponent with his stick when one was not even on the ice.
He thinks he can get away with anything.

The league should suspend him ten games before he does worse - or before an opponent seriously injures him. They won’t do it. But they should.

He’s a goon in a league tired of goons. Real fans love grit by classy players with skill. Trade him to Philadelphia and let him fulfill his stature.

Kid’s a douchebag. To me this is no different than what Witkowski did, he engaged the play on the ice while being off the ice.

So apparently he didn’t learn his lesson two weeks ago (big surprise eh?).  5 games, I’d give him.  I would be surprised if the NHL gives him 2, but they really should double the previous suspension.

If I was out there, I would let him do something stupid like that and I would absolutely go ape-sh on him.

I was surprised that media types in Canada seemed to emphasize how “gentle”
the stickwork was both times.

Can you jab a guy with your stick when you’re not on the ice, or not?

Can you slash a guy who’s off the ice, or not?

Even Doug McClain of all people said in disbelief “you get fined for squirting a guy with your water bottle!”

Craig Button said it was merely a dumb thing to do - one game.

I’ve never been a fan of mismatches, but Tkachuk (and the DoPS) need to realize
he’s slashed Witkowski and contributed to him losing almost 1/8th of his salary.
He’s jabbed Martin with his stick. Both times when those guys were not even looking in his direction.
Those are two players who could seriously hurt him and might not hesitate.

They are becoming rarer and rarer in the league these days. But someone needs to send a message to this kid…
