Video- Did The Refs Make The Right Call? Gallagher/Chara

First there was no call, then the officials huddled and assessed penalties.  Gallagher 2 for roughing, Chara 2 for a cross-check.

added 11:51am, Chara was just fined, see below.

We can’t have guys skating around getting crosschecked in the throat and not being punished for it.

And Chara appeared to repeatedly mock Gallagher,
either for taking that vicious crosscheck or for selling it too much.
No selling needed. Pretty brutal. How does Chara have any self-respect doing that to a guy who gives up over a foot in height and like eighty lbs?

The refs continue to judge Boston by a completely different standard
from the rest of the league. It’s amazing the unanimity among fans of every other team that Boston gets away with much much more on a consistent basis. You simply don’t see fans say that about any other team, no matter whom they root for or which teams they generally loathe. Everyone is seeing the same things re: this one team.

Also: notice Marchand clearly spears Petry and is the main aggressor, but “because Boston” the refs instead only call a slash. No…sticking the blade of one’s stick right into an opponent’s midsection is a spear. Wtf? Why can everyone but the league’s supposed on-ice experts see that?

I’m still hoping someday someone gets ahold of Marchand before the officials and his teammates can protect him and finally holds him accountable for dangerously disrespecting his opponents over his whole career. He doesn’t respect any sort of code. The league protects him. I’m glad the league is a little more civilized. But he’s the one player in the league who leaves me wishing a Probert or Kocur or - can’t believe I’m writing this - even a sadistic psycho Domi type just unloads on him.
It would be half Marchand’s fault and half the league’s.

Ooo… a $5000 fine! Way to go, NHL! You show these players they can crosscheck an opponent in the throat and pay the equivalent of a pack of gum and bottle of pop from a convenience store. Sure, it might be the “maximum allowed”, but that’s no bloody excuse for letting him get away with it.

Players need to be shown there are consequences for their actions. Yeah, Chara has some height on Callahan, but that’s no excuse for crosschecking.

Between the shenanigans of Marchand and some of the crap Chara has gotten away with over the past several years, one might begin to wonder if Jeremey Jacobs and LiL Gary had some sort of understanding…???? sick
