Apparently not for the players themselves or the 18,000 fans in attendance.

I’d rather see a fight than a cross check to the head or a stick to the face like some on here wanted to have happen to Gudas in that thread.

It’s pretty rare for a fight to lead to a serious injury.

This was absolutely pointless. The fact that “18,000” people liked it doesn’t take away anything from the fact that it was completely unnecessary and arbitrary, and speaks volumes of sociological issues present where people want to see blood for the sake of momentary violent stimulus.

Hockey is a game of skill, not a game of reckless concussive hits or mêlées.

Haha, tell that to Shanahan who was in about 90 fights in his career and Iginla’s near 50 fights.
Two great players there of “skill” that fight and don’t forget some guy called Gordie Howe and Lindsay who had a little skill that weren’t afraid to drop the gloves.
Fighting is part of the game no matter how hard New York lawyers like bettman and daly try to phase it out of the league.

Fighting will be phased out sooner than later, and not by New York lawyers and league executives, which is an absurd point because they haven’t done anything to curb fighting with supplementary discipline, but by the new generation of players coming up.

Players are becoming wary of concussion issues, and how very serious they are. Howe and Lindsay are from a bygone era, and those standards overwhelmingly don’t apply anymore. Shanahan played over a thousand games, and Iginila is getting there. They are skilled players that fight, but very rarely. You don’t see them taking part in staged fights like this.
