from Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun,
The boo-birds were loud and committed to the cause.
Trouble is, the home team didn’t give them any other reason to clear their throats.
Los Angeles Kings defence stalwart Drew Doughty was greeted with boos nearly every time he touched the puck in Monday’s matchup at the Saddledome — a response to his rip-job earlier in the day on local fan favourite Matthew Tkachuk — but the Flames didn’t exactly make him eat his words.
On the strength of a 42-save shutout by Jack Campbell, the cellar-dwelling Kings notched a 3-0 victory.
“I don’t think they’re booing because of the comments,” Tkachuk said in a post-game media scrum. “I know I get booed when I’m in L.A. He gets booed when he’s here … Stuff just boils over time.”
Indeed, Monday’s focal points have been feuding since Tkachuk’s rookie campaign, when the rising-star left-winger was suspended for an elbow to Doughty’s chops and later blasted the Norris Trophy winner for characterizing him as a dirty player, saying “I expected more from him, honestly, than to go right to the media and start complaining after a loss.”
Below, watch Doughty and Tkachuk with some stick work and the game highlights.
