via Sportsnet,

With 18 seconds left in the first period in a game against the New Jersey Devils, Price took exception to Devils forward Kyle Palmieri‘s net drive, and responded by punching Palmieri in the back several times with his blocker.

The NHL rule book states that a match penalty can be awarded: “If, in the judgment of the referee, a goalkeeper uses his blocking glove to punch an opponent in the head or face in an attempt to or to deliberately injure an opponent, a match penalty must be assessed.”

Sportsnet’s John Shannon thinks Price was lucky to not have been ejected.

Wow, that’s one instance when you can punch harder with your gloves on!

Maybe he was reacting to Bruce Boudreau’s quote.

I like Price…
But is that fine/suspension worthy, considering it’s a blindside hit?  Palmeiri doesn’t know it’s coming, at least not until the last fraction of a second, then Price has a blocker in his face.
