from Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star,
Rielly coughed up the puck in front of Jonathan Bernier, playing his 200th game. Derek Stepan scored the winner with 1:31 remaining.
“I just tried to turn back and it rolled,” Rielly said. “Obviously, they got it.”
Brassard added an empty-netter to seal the win for New York in a game dominated by Toronto.
Rielly apologized for the mistake. Babcock said it was part of the young defenceman’s learning curve.
“He didn’t mean to do it,” Babcock said. “He’s a good player for us. I don’t know what happened. It was one of those situations that we count on him for big minutes and make good decisions and he’s done a lot of good things, he’d like to have that back.”
