So, uh, this Matthews kid is pretty good after all?

My Facebook feed is entirely clogged up with people cheering on the hometown kid. Pretty cool and a heckuva lot better than the political posts that have normally dominated my feed lately.

You know who scored 4 goals in a game in one of his first few games?

Tomas Hertl.

You know one of the last two players to score a hat trick in their NHL debut?

Fabian Brunnstrom.

Matthews has a lot of work to do yet.  One game is apparently not an indicator of much.  Everyone really needs to calm down.  It would not be unusual for him to have a good first few games, and the a big drop-off in his production for the remainder of the season.

And without the Arizona Coyotes this guy would probably be playing another sport. Remember that Leaf fans (and most hockey fans) the next time you want to trash on the idea of hockey outside “traditional” markets.
