Simmonds did not receive any penalty for this hit on Tyler Ennis.
He did receive 5 for fighting while Mike Weber received 2 for instigator, 5 for fighting and a 10 minute misconduct.
Ennis did not return to play.

Yeah, the hit was a legit shoulder-on-shoulder hit until the last second when Ennis tried to pull back. Certainly don’t like to see Ennis get hurt, but it is what it is. Simmonds intended to throw a clean hit, and essentially did. I don’t like to do the whole “blame the victim” and “keep your head up” schtick, but this is truly one of the cases where I think it is clearly true.

No problem at all. Ennis put himself in a vulnerable position, all the while knowing Simmonds is hounding him down the boards. Ennis, and any other player in this position, has to take responsibility for his own safety. Use your head and don’t put yourself in a place to get hurt

The hit was clean. Weber earned every penalty minute.

Why is Ennis turning ? And not protecting himself? Simmonds did nothing wrong. League has to watch that the “victims” are really victims.

Gotta agree. The hit was a little questionable, but Ennis purposefully turned his back at the last second and faced the boards. What’s Simmonds going to do? No check because dude doesn’t want to get rubbed out on the boards? Ideally there’s no injury. But this is all on Ennis for being a wuss.
