Besides the elbow and the “principle point of contact” talk, first & foremost, that’s a charge. At least it used to be until the mid 90’s when this whole “finish your check” talk started.

I happened to be watching the NHL Network live look in when this happened and now I can totally see why the NHL is leaving TSN. Their announcers were saying Downie leaned into the check so it was his fault or was trying to get out of the way of the check and that’s why he got injured.
