Greg Wyshynski of PuckDaddy headlines his story with “goal of the year candidate”.
I say it’s probably the best video to describe the Columbus season so far.
Anyways, watch the goal by Jamie Benn yourself and then decide.

The video summarizes the Columbus season, for sure. On that play 4, count ‘em, 4 Columbus players stood around and watched it happen.
I have seen coaches fired for that kind of nonsense, and I think Scott Arniel will not make it through November unless this team improves about 10,000%. Scott Howson should also go. He is the one who assembled this bunch of lazy slugs.

From what I heard Doc is Howson is in more trouble than the coach right now.
But they will wait until their injured players return plus their #1 dman returns from suspension soon.

I’m a Stars fan but this isn’t quite GOY material. It is a great example of dogged pursuit and the puck skills of Jamie Benn. It shows why Stars fans are so amped about Benn.
It should be Goal of the Week, maybe, if such a thing exists. But there will be plenty of more awesome goals than this one.

Really nice goal, got to take advantage of the space, so I give Benn credit. But could the BJs have looked any softer on that play? That was a great example of why Rick Nash still cannot be considered elite. He might be capable of scoring 50 or 60 goals, but there’s no chance a player with the “compete-level” of Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Crosby, Richards, Getzlaf, Perry, or even a less renowned player like Bergeron lets that happen without a fight.

Heard someone on the radio this morning call it “quit of the year”. lol
I think any NHLer could have scored that based on the amount of try the CLB players showed. That was scary bad. Not hard to understand why no one goes to watch them if that is what they call effort. Yikes.

In my mind, goal of the year stuff is when good offense beats good defense. Nice effort by Benn to stay with the puck. Unfortunately, what sticks out in this clip is the really bad defensive effort of Columbus.

I was there, sitting in the end where the goal was scored. It was a nice shot, but Aaron Johnson coughed it up, right to Benn. It was great shot, but aren’t all shots at Mason great these days? Mason tried to poke it, which was kind of useless, and he got a nice view of the puck as it went into the net.
It was good goal, but goal of the year. And it does show the inadequacies of the so-called NHL team in Columbus.

“Knife’s it away?” It slipped right through the BJ d-man without Benn even touching it.

No way, it was just a bunch of lucky bounces but nothing really amazing. Benn hardly had the puck on his stick for more than a second, it was just an amazing amount of bad hops and crappy d. Like you said, best goal to sum up the BJs season, but no way goal of the year. I’d take Franzen’s blast over Varlomov last saturday over that crap goal.
