No call on the play…
Updated at 1:08 AM via George: TSN’s Bob McKenzie reports that Green will face a disciplinary hearing with Brendan Shanahan on Friday, and McKenzie believes that Green’s status as a “repeat offender makes a suspension all but assured.

Absolutely should be a suspension. There is no excuse for that hit. The only part of Connolly Green could possibly hit is his head and he targeted it and did it. It was completely unnecessary, and stupid. Kind if reminds me of the Engelland hit earlier this year where Krueger was already engaged with another player and Engo hit him in the head. Engo got 3 games for his hit…green should get at least the same. That said I doubt he gets anything. With the caps fighting for a playoffs spot, shanahan wont have the guts to suspend him. #garageleauge

The elbow is illegal, but Connelly’s play here does show considerable disregard of danger. I don’t like the play or the elbow.

I just really dislike hits where someone comes flying in on a player already engaged with someone else.

I get the feeling that players are reacting to the suspensions handed out by Shanny by going on the record quickly to let the hitter off the hook. Connolly was wrapped up with another player and got his clock cleaned. i don’t see how any blame falls on him here. I’ve definitely seen dirtier hits but this hit isn’t squeaky clean, IMO.
Just a thought.

For sure, guys always say a hit was clean so that they aren’t thought of as whiners and lobbyists.

Exactly. Completely amateur move by Green. Aside from the fact that I’m sure he will be suspended, I’m shocked there was no penalty called on the ice.

I was about to post this. Makes me more sad than normal when a guy who has suffered from head/neck injuries takes a run at someone like this. There’s no place for it. When will these guys learn?
