Video- The Mario Lemieux Statue

Lemieux’s statue was unveiled today at the Consol Energy Center.

So, Rich Pilon, how does it feel to be immortalized in the bronze Mario Lemieux statue unveiled today in Pittsburgh, with Le Magnifique splitting the New York Islander defence pairing of Pilon and Jeff Norton for all eternity?

“To tell you the truth, it’s very cool,” Pilon told TSN, just minutes after the statue was unveiled in Pittsburgh. “I have no problem with it. If you’re going to get beat on a play and it’s there for everyone to see forever, it might as well be Mario. He did that to a lot of defencemen.”

Yeah, and if your boy Lemieux had only played another 19 seasons or so, he might have reached Gretzky’s career numbers.

... or 8, if we want to do math the right way.

JJ, since you seem to have the answers for everything, how do I go about atoning for the mistakes of my fellow Pens fans?  In the future, I will just buy all the tickets when the team gets bad and that way there will be sellouts, but how do I go about changing the past?

Any Pens fan who makes fun of bandwagon fans of other teams needs to look in the mirror.  However, most fan bases are like that.  If there are extended periods of bad play, casual fans will leave.  I don’t understand why, unless a fan of a team is saying otherwise, I or anyone else have to apologize or justify the fan base as a whole.

And with the draft pick thing, yes, the Pens had 5 top 5 picks in a decade, but it’s really only 4.  Why does the 2005 draft get lumped in there as well?  Everyone had a chance at the #1 pick (I know that’s not true.  Bettman rigged it!)  They got extremely that all those picks panned out, but those drafts didn’t guarantee anything.  People act like it was the first time in history a team had multiple top picks to try to rebuild a team.

Better than Gretzky.

Pump the brakes.  500 G in 530 GP.  Re-invented hockey.  Stop the heresy.

shouldn’t be a picture of him whining about “obstruction” and not having a free lane straight to the net?

No, there should be a statue of a guy bearhugging his waist while he goes in and aces any goalie in the league.

Try taking yourself down from the cross first.

And your name is Pilon.
