Video- The CBA Process Moves Forward

First a short video with both Bettman and Fehr talking, then a follow-up story from Adam Kimelman of NHL.com.

added 6:51pm, Michael Grange of Sportsnet has much more detail from today’s meeting, well worth the click.

The Toronto Star’s Kevin McGran offers quite a bit in the rhetoric department. Bettman claims that there’s a “timeline” and Donald Fehr does not:

“We’ve got a lot to do in a relatively short period of time and both sides are working very hard at it,” said Bettman. “I’m not going to speculate as to what we may or may not do. Our goal is to get a deal as quickly as possible.”

When told of Bettman’s comments, Fehr interrupted his questioner.

“I’m not sure what a ‘short period of time’ means,” said Fehr. “There’s a lot to do. The optimum is to get a deal done as soon as you could. But if there’s some demarcation point, (a date) that it has to be done by, nobody has told us yet.

“I know the law does not impose one.”

Fehr did not rule out a no-strike, no-lockout agreement.

“I have always viewed a strike as a last resort,” said Fehr. “What a ‘last resort’ means is you bargain in good faith, you do everything you can, you listen carefully to what the other side says, you make counter proposals when you can, and you keep at it until you get an agreement. Hopefully the other side shares that.”
