Better headline than “Picking *up* the head of Taylor Hall.”
Soon, though, if the head shots don’t stop, we’re going to have one of those situations on our hands.

Good Lord Nosferatu, that was not a head shot. The first commenter nailed it. Edler was not even looking at the guy, and Hall’s head came in around his waist!
The guy that goes in like that should not be rewarded with a power play, let alone a suspension.

There was all sorts of movement by both players “immediately prior too or simultaneous with the hit.” I do not expect a suspension on this play, nor does there deserve to be one.

No suspension. Edler would have to have been some sort of evil genius to have planned that and I wouldn’t say that he even recklessly targeted the head of Hall.

Oh, no, VancityDan, I was just speaking more along the lines of all these hits in general. This one was nothing, really. Two minute minor. But the point is, it feels like a relentless barrage of these stories—most of them of valid bad hits.

Timing play gone wrong (boy, an awful lot of these reviewable situations are timing plays gone bad). Edler has to look at where he’s going, but he’s expecting a hit from Hall (a hit that never comes). Since he’ll crash into the boards horribly at that speed if he keeps looking at Hall instead of where he’s going, Edler has to look at the puck and guess where and when Hall’s check is coming. The check never comes, so his guess is totally wrong.
Looks like no injury, which is a good thing.

It’s probably worth noting that the fact that so many of these are timing plays gone wrong could be viewed as progress. All the ones from last year’s playoffs were of the ‘saw him with his head down and took it off on purpose’ variety, with zero mitigating factors.

No way, this is not suspendable. Hall thought he was going to nail Edler instead Edler caught him with shoulder. No targeting whatsoever!!!

If this goes penalized, things are gonna get out of hand…
The dude just hit the brakes and tried to hit back the forecheck.. How the heck should he know the other guy was gonna headbutt him?
Next, coaches are gonna tell the players to start going into the forecheck head first, and try to hit the defender’s shoulder with their heads…
