Video- It’s Not Often You See A Penalty Shot Awarded On A Non-Scoring Chance

Mark Streit of the NY Islanders knocked the net off and the Buffalo Sabres were awarded a penalty shot.

The Islanders did win the game.

Hello tv guys,

if this is not a penalty shot, then what is? The Islanders player was neither pushed nor interfered and ran unobstructed into the net. In my opinion this MUST it was the right call.

Awful. awful call.  No way did Streit knock the net off INTENTIONALLY.  No scoring chance, puck wasn’t even close to the net.

Scoring chance isn’t relevant to the penalty shot. If they call intentionally knocking the net off and there’s not enough time in regulation to play out the 2 minute delay of game penalty, the result is a penalty shot.

I don’t agree with the officials that the net was knocked off intentionally, i think he hit a rut or toe-picked or something, but the call was properly enforced.

I’ve seen a lot of nets get knocked this season without any call. Again, inconsistency has not gotten better with two refs on the ice.

Sorry but you are wrong, the player knocked the goal off the posts and this is a penalty shot.  You cannot knock it off regardless if he blew a tire and fell into it like this play or knocked it off intentially.  Buffalo had the puck in the NY zone and this stopped the play.  Too bad Vanek missed the shot and rang off the pipe.  Do some homework next time before posting a story such as this.
