That play looked nearly identical to the play by George Parros last week against the Wings. Parros’s kicked in goal counted?

Kicking motion?  Deliberate yes, but kicking?

Big difference Down River Dan. Only thing Parros did was open his skate up to direct. Getzlaf obviously propelled his foot towards the net while changing the direction of his skate blade. Parros goal was correct call as was this.

He motioned his foot towards the net Tuxedo. Thats all it takes. Not a lot of skaters can “kick” puck. It has to do with the foot propelling towards the net.

What a dirty goal. He obviously left his feet before scoring that goal! Right Tux?

Yeah, he did motion towards the net and his foot does come slightly off the ground which is usually a give a way fro it to be a “kick” versus a redirect.

LOL, the look on Getzlaf’s face after the “no goal” call.  Prior to that he was all smug and smarmy (the latter because he’s Getzlaf), and afterwards honest disbelief and the thought of murdering the officials.

This was my EXACT first thought as well, Parros basically did the exact same thing and there wasn’t really any deliberation on them calling it a goal.

I think it’s high time they just admit they have no idea how to call the mythical “distinct kicking motion”, and remove the kicking rule altogether.  I have yet still to hear a coherent argument against why grown men wielding ultra-light sticks they regularly whack each other with, while wearing hardened armor they try to take each others’ heads off with, are not allowed to score a goal by kicking the puck in, motion or not.

It’s a dumb, dumb dinosaur of a rule.
