if the refs had called green’s initial crosscheck to the back of stepan which sent him head first into the boards then maybe stepan wouldn’t be making a hit where he felt some retribution was necessary?

completely accidental.
Stepan is not a dirty player.
Stepan was trying to get out of greens way.

KARMA IS A BITCH!

Regardless of retribution or not, still a direct shot to the head… you know the kind the NHL pretends they care about ending, even if it was well disguised as a hockey play.

These posts are astonishing with the exception of MarkK.  And one other one from a historically indignant poster…

Nothing matters other that it was an shot to the head.  I suspect Stepan will be suspended.  And he should be.

Unicorn Force, my bet is that you’ve never played ice hockey, correct?

And here I was thinking the sheer power of Green’s Douchebag fauxhawk would have deflected Stephan’s elbow.  It wasn’t a dirty play because how many times do we see two players headed towards the puck in the corner collide with shoulders/elbows first?  That is exactly what Stephan was bracing himself for.  Watching the replay it looks as if Green was completely unaware that Stephan was right in front of him going for the puck.

Maybe Green was too busy thinking about which hair product to buy after his container of hair gel runs out?

+1

Most plays the two go for the puck, collision happens and nothing comes of it. Interesting comment by the Carolina color guy in the Staal video regarding the OHL’s “no hits to the head” policy. Has that rule had any appreciable effect?

Stepan was fined by the NHL, no suspension.

he got his elbow up, but could he have known that green was going to crouch down and try to kiss Stepan on the numbers?  I have no idea wtf Green was trying to do there.

but as far as I know the rule doesn’t make a distinction between intentional and unintentional hits to the head, so this fits the rule.
