In the words of Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven - “Deserve has got nothing to do with it”
This is a dirty hit and does not belong in the game. The recipient is irrelevant. If we make exceptions for who is targeted or how badly they are hurt, it becomes relative and difficult to enforce. The biggest issue in this game is the inconsistency of calls and punishments. Let’s not make it even more convoluted.

Of course the league won’t review they don’t consider attempts to injure Islanders as infractions. The fact that that was only two minutes and Avery’s second penalty, a cross check to the face, was also only two minutes is a joke.
